Joseph McCarthy Joseph McCarthy was an American politician from Wisconsin, who served as a Republican join States Senator. He was born in Appleton, Wisconsin in November of 1908 and was raised on a farm with eight other siblings. His parents were devout romish Catholics. In McCarthy’s early life he was true into the United States Marine Corps. He also worked as a chicken farmer, managing a grocery store, a lawyer, and most importantly, a senator.
